This piece is a study in the real-time interactions between a clarinetist and a computer musician. Communication between the two performers is paramount for an effective performance. Sonically, the clarinet material consists of the expansion of motives to a "breaking-point" at which the character of the clarinet radically changes either through extended technique, computer processing, or change of instrument. The vast majority of the electronic material is generated from live processing of the clarinet save for two points at which fixed electronics enter in the form of heavily manipulated bass-clarinet samples.
This piece was premiered by Jamie Cox on September 13, 2009 in Iowa City, Iowa.
